Where children go, adults follow…

My Play Area aims to provide you with up to date information about play opportunities in your local area, as well as provide support in how you can make changes to improve the play areas you visit. We will use the knowledge and expertise of parents to help populate our interactive map, so that you can see where the best play areas are located in order to meet the needs of your children.

“Outdoor play is essential to children’s development. They need playgrounds to develop vital social skills and these community spaces have a central role in children’s physical and mental health.”

Have you got a local play area
that needs improving?

If you have a play area that you would like to see improved, you can arrange for a My Play Area assessment – this will let you know what standard your play area meets.

Additionally, A Full Report is available to provide a detailed assessment on the play area’s
equipment, the play area design and the surrounding facilities. The information will highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the play area and provide suggestions to how the play area can be improved for all abilities. This information can then be used to assist with any grant funding opportunities as it clearly shows where weaknesses are present and how they will be addressed.

My Play Standards explained

When a play area is assessed, it will fall into one of the following categories .

offering a range of equipment for
all abilities for the local community

play equipment and design will offer the widest range
of play opportunities possible. There may also
be toilets, car parking and café close by

these play areas will now be on the wish list of all children
and parents, demonstrating access for all, multiple play
opportunities as well as other facilities on site.
